Description

Curt Mangan 9.5-44 Electric Guitar Nickel Wound Round Core Set.

Gauges: 9.5-11.5-16-24-34-44
String Length: 43 inches

There was a magical time in music that began in the Summer of 1967 with the Monterey Pop Festival, which featured legendary guitar performances by Jimi Hendrix and Pete Townsend. Their performances started the first wave of iconic “Guitar Heroes.” This group of new heroes also included Eric Clapton, Jimmie Page, Jeff Beck and many others. These players took guitar playing to an entirely new level of innovation. It was around this time that the guitar string industry switched from pure-nickel to nickel-plated steel for the cover wire on what is known as “nickelwound” strings, but the core wire used was still round. Round-core, nickel-plated steel strings became the most popular strings used until the string industry converted to hex-core beginning in the mid 1970’s. Our new round-core, nickel-plated steel strings are dedicated to this magical time in guitar history.

You will find these strings to have an elevated level of liveliness with a smoother feel when you are bending or using vibrato on the wound strings.

    9.5 Round Core Nicklewound

Posted by Tim Pogue on 19th Jan 2022

A guitar tech gave me a set of 9.5 hex core to try out. I usually play EB9s on my LP. The 9.5s took a few days to get used to but quickly became very comfortable to play. Based on this experience I decided to try the round core to see if I could get 9.5s to feel closer to the 9s I had become used to. Bang on. I think I have found my new favorite strings

    9.5 Roundcore NickelWound

Really like the 9.5 gauge set and the roundcore, use both the pure nickel and the nickelwound which are a bit brighter than the pure nickel on my tele and really cuts through, the round core's are just so nice and easy to play and I get a great tone with these!

I’m using these strings on my Gibson ES339 and my PRS. Great feel and nice tone on two humbucker guitars that need a little cut and top end. The gauge and string quality give me what I’m looking for!

Tried the normal and the round core. The round core really suits me. Great tone and a nice slinky feel. This is my new string company.
