Nickel-Plated Steel wound strings were introduced in the late Sixties and have become the most popular alloy for electric guitars and bass. Nickel-plated steel tends to offer the most balanced tone.
Nickel Wound strings are created by wrapping Nickel-Plated Steel alloys around a hex-shaped core wire which is made from tin-plated high-carbon steel (same as plain strings, but hex-shaped). The “core-to-wrap” ratio is the combined diameters of the core wire and the wrap wire which creates the overall diameter of the string.

The best!
Always consistent, great sound and last a long time. The 9.5-46 is a perfect in between set on those guitars that just have a bit more tension and make the 10s a little tough as my hands get older.
Curt Mangan 9.5 to 46 Telecaster Nickel Wound Strings
After trying countless other leading manufactures electric guitar strings in various gauges; I find that the subject strings are a cut above the best of the best. I've tried all the leading brands over the past two years (spending around $500) and while others are good to very good; the Curt Mangan strings are just plain excellent for my personal taste. Additionally the customer service is great with a desire to meet customer needs when called upon to do so. Try them, you'll like them!
