Stainless Steel wound strings became popular in the early Seventies. Stainless Steel strings are the brightest sounding strings and offer extended life to players who have acidic hands.
Stainless Wound strings are created by wrapping Stainless Steel alloys around a hex-shaped core wire which is made from tin-plated high-carbon steel (same as plain strings, but hex-shaped).

45-100 Stainless Wound Bass Strings
Excellent! I bought a new Spector bass guitar and what a great difference between the strings that were on the bass! Great price too. I use Curt's strings on my 1977 Les Paul and they are just as good as Elixir Optimas at half the price, even though that don't last quite as long as they are not coated strings. Other than that, an excellent deal!
