Nickel wound guitar strings are made by winding nickel-plated steel wire around a tin-plated, high-carbon steel hex core wire. (same as plain strings, but hex-shaped). The “core-to-wrap” ratio is the combined diameters of the core wire and the wrap wire which creates the overall diameter of the string. Nickel wound guitar strings have a very balanced tonal response with sparkling highs, clear mid-range and defined bass.
Many players believe that Round Core strings seem to have less tension, easier to bend and a more wide open tone with a lot of chime. The installation of Round Core strings requires a special procedure. CLICK HERE to watch a video explaining how it is done.
