Pure Nickel wound strings were used exclusively on most guitars built in Fifties and most of the Sixties. Pure Nickel has a slightly warmer tone than nickel-plated steel and is preferred by many blues artists.
Pure Nickel Wound strings are created by wrapping Pure Nickel alloys around a hex-shaped core wire which is made from tin-plated high-carbon steel (same as plain strings, but hex-shaped).

9.5-44 Pure Nickel strings
I tried another well-known brand of this gauge, also pure nickel. These have the superior tone, very warm, clear and 'alive'. I think these are going to be my go-to set. 9.5 is a perfect compromise between playability and tone.
Pure Nickel 9.5-44
Just put a set of these on my Gretsch G2420 Hollow body. I've tried other brands of pure nickel strings but these are noticeably richer and fuller sounding. The 9.5 is a great balance between 9s, which would be too light on this kind of guitar, and 10s, which are just a little too stiff for me. Highly recommended for hollow body guitars, especially for fingerstyle blues.

Went from 10's to 9.5 Nickel on a 66 Fender Ebaycaster. Plugged into a 50 Champion 600. Throw away all other brands of strings and find an old 600. Pure Bliss in the age of Death.

Guitar strings
Curt Mangan strings are absolutely the best it doesn’t matter which style you buy they all are top notch. I have never seen strings this good. They last longer and play better and I have not broke one string. Thanx curt mangan strings

I love these strings! Im 64 and I play 2 to 3 hours a day. Ive played 10’s for the majority of the past 45 years. This set is the perfect sweet spot! This is a well made string.... and they stay in tune and last a long time.
Pure nickel
These are great sounding strings... I'm still not sure which ones I like best. Still comparing, pure nickel, round and retro. Can't go back to the steel strings though...
