Stainless Steel wound strings became popular in the early Seventies. Stainless Steel strings are the brightest sounding strings and offer extended life to players who have acidic hands.
Stainless Wound strings are created by wrapping Stainless Steel alloys around a hex-shaped core wire which is made from tin-plated high-carbon steel (same as plain strings, but hex-shaped).

Stainless steel electric guitar strings
I have never used stainless steel strings previously, but it seemed interesting to put this bright string on a Les Paul. The strings incidentally are visually darker on the wound strings than you would find with nickel wound. However they sound good and stay in tune pretty darned good for 10's with a plain steel G strings...If they last as long as my Curt Mangan bass or mandolin strings as well and stay close to pitch I will be very pleased indeed.
